Art as Healing Practice
Jim Henson’s narrative reflects his own wellness journey. After a diagnosis of Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2014, he studied subtle energy‑healing techniques and became a Reiki Master in 2015. He has continued to achieve remission while navigating two temporary relapses. In 2023, he began writing and illustrating the healing messages embedded within the oral traditions of the thirty‑six stones found in ancient circular petroforms. Reiki is a simple hands‑on or touch‑free practice that guides subtle, natural energy to support the body’s healing response.
Jim has shared his integration of energy‑healing techniques in three articles published in Reiki News Magazine International. This trilogy expands upon his own “Hero’s Journey” as he applies psychologist C. G. Jung’s theories of individuation alongside related holistic recovery practices. By learning to regulate the body’s natural regenerative systems, the autonomic nervous system may become better optimized for healing.

Jim’s art found homes with international collectors after Merrill Chase Galleries of Chicago featured his work during his tenure as Executive Director of the Red River Valley Museum. His Southwest art collector’s plate series, The Long Road West, was inspired by his association with the Waggoner Ranch while teaching at Vernon College in Vernon, Texas from 1977 to 1981.
